November’s water polo club news is here! -

Welcome to our November edition of Water Polo News.  Its been another busy month with a lot of action in the British Water League – see www.bwpl.org for the latest news.  In this newsletter we try to shine a light on other activities that are going on at club level.  We hope you find it an interesting read.    

Barnsley Swimming Club Water Polo is celebrating its 140th anniversary.  The club has a rich history including being founder members of the Wakefield and District League in 1922.  They celebrated the anniversary with a tournament comprising two Barnsley teams and teams from Morley Water Polo Club and York Water Polo.  Sounds like a great event and congratulations from all at Water Polo News on achieving this great milestone!

Congratulations to Tyldesley Women’s Water Polo team on securing promotion to Division One of the British Water Polo League next season.  The team maintained a 100% record of wins to gain promotion with two games still to play.

Good to see Hillingdon Penguin developing their under 14 team at London Swimming’s Under-14 Development Tournament.  This event gave the squad valuable practice ahead of the Winter League.

The Hampshire Development Water Polo tournament for under 14s took place this month.  Congratulations to the winners Worthing and to Kingston Royals who came in a strong second place.

Great to see the British Water Polo League trophies, currently held by City of Manchester Water Polo Club, on display alongside the FA Cup at the Manchester Sports Awards evening.  This is where our sport belongs!

Congratulations to City of Birmingham Men’s team who have been nominated for the Community Team of the Year at the Coventry & Warwickshire Sports Awards.  The team won the men’s championship 3 with a young team (half aged 21 or under).  Good luck!

Northampton Water Polo club are looking for new members – see add below.  They are also offering female only training sessions on Wednesdays from 20.15 to 21.30.  Get in touch using the contact below if you would like to join them.

And so is Sevenoaks Water club!

Petar Momcilovic is running another University Water Polo Clinic on 14 December 2019 at Haberdashers’ Aske’s School.  Petar is currently a coach at Mercyhurst University in America and the day will include a talk about applying to study and play water polo in American universities.  Full details in the flier below.

And finally, the University of Sheffield Swimming and Water Polo Club are hosting a charity Water Polo event on the 16th November 2019 at Maltby Leisure Centre. The event is being organised by the University’s women’s water polo captain, Becki Lee.  There will be 14 teams from six universities taking part.  It has been organised to raise funds and increase awareness of cancer and the impact it has on individuals and their immediate family and friends. The event will run from 2pm to 8pm and will be opened by the Lord Mayor of Sheffield.  Do go along and support the event if you can.  Any donations would be greatly appreciated even if you are unable to attend the event.
