Wishing all polo fans a very happy and healthy new year -

Welcome to our January Water Polo News. We hope that all our readers have enjoyed a good Christmas, and we wish you all a great and sporting New Year!

December was a busy month. The Swim England Water Polo under 15 Age Group Championships saw 25 teams competing at Ponds Forge in Sheffield. It was a fantastic celebration of water polo. City of Manchester were crowned national champions in the Boys’ competition with Worthing taking home the silver. The bronze went to Warrington.

Cheltenham took the girls crown with silver going to City of Manchester and bronze to Sheffield. Very well done to everyone who competed!

Bristol & West Water Polo League held the first of three weekends of Water polo competitions with the Plymouth Life Centre being the first venue for age groups of Under 13s, Under 15s and Under 17s. Further competitions are planned for these age groups in 2022 together with an event for senior men and women at Millfield in February.

Congratulations to Cheltenham who were the winners of the under 13s competition. Newton Abbot were the runners up.

Davenport Royal Under 15s won their competition beating a good Exeter team in their final match to win the title. Exeter came second overall.

Davenport II won the Under 17s competition after beating their close rivals, Davenport I, in a tense final game which ended 8-12.

Sevenoaks 2021 winners of the Norman Beadle Cup

Sevenoaks are celebrating winning the Norman Beadle Cup. This is the third time they have won the cup in 7 years so very well done to them!

City of Bristol

City of Bristol Water Polo club are also celebrating. They finished third in BWPL Division 3.

Great to see that Hillingdon Water Polo has started up a girls’ training session. This has been made possible as a result of increasing female participation in sport. We look forward to seeing more clubs follow suit in 2022.

Latymer Penguins are going from strength to strength and won the first round of the under 14 Boys London Water Polo League North Division. Good luck for the coming rounds!

Congratulations also to Hillingdon Penguin, Bailey Sapsed, who won the under 15 Sporting Performance of 2021 award for the all-round improvement in his team playing skills. Well done Bailey!
