GBR Senior Women’s Teams

The Great Britain Senior Women’s team competed in the 2012 Olympic Games, placing 8th overall in what was the team’s Olympic debut.

However, UK Sport funding for the Great Britain Senior teams was cut from £4.5 million to nil following the 2012 Olympic Games. As such, the Great Britain Senior Women’s team was in a period of stasis.

Five years on from the London Olympics, with the development of new and strong leadership of the sport in the Home Nations, the re-emergence of a new group of young GBR senior players resulted in a GBR team under the auspices of British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) entering the 2017 World University Games (WUGs) in Chinese Taipei raising the prospect of a return by GBR Senior Men to LEN and FINA competitions.

Swim England announces water polo can return to training and competition



We have received a press release today from Swim England containing very welcome news. The press release reads as follows: WATER POLO GETS GREEN LIGHT TO RETURN TO ACTION Water polo clubs and players have been given the green light to return to training and competitive action after the Government approved Swim England guidance. The recognised national governing body submitted evidence to the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport at the beginning of the month.
