GBR Senior Womens Results

The Great Britain Senior Women’s team competed in the 2012 Olympic Games, placing 8th overall in what was the team’s Olympic debut.

However, UK Sport funding for the Great Britain Senior teams was cut from £4.5 million to nil following the 2012 Olympic Games, and the Great Britain Senior Women’s team was disbanded in 2014.

Ten years later, the emergence of a new group of young GBR senior players resulted in a GBR team finally returning to top-flight European competition with successful qualification to the European Water Polo Championships 2024, Eindhoven, NED Jan 5-13 2024 where GBR secured 7th place and qualification to the 2024 World Championships in Doha.

Great Britain finished their World Cup Division Two campaign on a high with a hard-fought 13-12 (3-4, 3-1, 6-3, 1-4) victory over Portugal on Sunday afternoon in Malta. Theo Nousios’ squad took control after the first quarter, but had to dig deep in the fourth to secure seventh place overall, as the Portuguese fought back to level late on. Izzy Howe was the hero, sending in an exquisite lob shot with 1:07 remaining to win the game.
