Great Britain’s senior women beat Germany 5-13 (1-4, 0-4, 1-3, 3-2) to get their European Qualification campaign off to the perfect start in Portugal on Friday night
An outstanding all-round performance from Nick Buller’s squad against a talented side that finished 10th at last year’s European Championships in Split.
London Otter and University of California’s Lily Turner top scored with five as Great Britain controlled the game expertly throughout.
Germany struggled to find a way past Great Britain’s well-organised and stubborn defence, and further goals from Izzy Howe (3), Katy Cutler (2), Kathy Rogers (1), Annie Clapperton (1) and Amelia Peters (1) sealed the impressive opening-day victory.

ISRAEL BOUND! Great Britain’s senior women will play in the 2024 European Water Polo Championships in January after securing qualification with a battling 12-14 (1-2, 3-3, 5-6, 3-3) victory over Portugal on Saturday evening. After a long 10-year hiatus, Great Britain are returning to the top table of international water polo and massive congratulations to all the players and coaching staff for this monumental achievement.

Against Portugal, Great Britain missed a few early chances but edged their way in front to take a 4-5 lead at the turnaround, and Nick Buller’s squad fought hard throughout the second half in order to book their ticket to Israel tonight.
London Otter’s Katy Cutler was on fine form for Great Britain, leading the attack with four goals, while our other scorers were Lily Turner (3), Annie Clapperton (2), Kathy Rogers (1), Rosie Huck (1), Amelia Peters (1), Izzy Howe (1) and Toula Falvey (1).
With Germany beating Finland earlier on Saturday, and Germany set to play Portugal on Sunday, our second win of the tournament guarantees a top two finish regardless of the results on day three.
Every player, including those who have contributed to the squad in the past few years, deserves huge credit for today’s success, and a special mention to Head Coach Nick Buller, Assistant Coach Peggy Etibet and Team Manager Rose Younger.

Great Britain’s senior women finished their successful European Qualification campaign with a commanding 2-27 (1-10, 1-6, 0-5, 0-6) victory over Finland on Sunday morning
The result completed a hat-trick of wins in Portugal for Nick Buller’s squad, who finished top of their group and booked their ticket to the 2024 European Championships in Israel on Saturday thanks to their battling 12-14 win against the hosts.
Toula Falvey and Mhairi Nurthen fired in six goals each against Finland, while there were hat-tricks for Niamh Moloney and Brooke Tafazolli, and Vicki Hawkins (2), Amelia Peters (2), Rosie Huck (2), Katy Cutler (2) and Annie Clapperton (1) also hit the net.
