Great Britain’s senior women lost their opening game at the 2026 European Water Polo Championships to the Netherlands 14-4 (4-0, 5-0, 3-3, 2-1) on Monday night
A fantastic feat to restrict the defending champions to 14 goals and lose the second half by just one goal, which will give the team confidence going forward for the rest of the tournament.

Game 2 ISR v GBR

Great Britain lost to Israel 11-6 (2-1, 2-1, 4-2, 3-2) on Tuesday afternoon in Madeira, ending their hopes of making the top eight at the 2026 European Championships
Lily Turner led the scoring for GB with two goals, while Toula Falvey (1), Izzy Howe (1), Katie Brown (1) and Kathy Rogers were also on target.

Game 3 GBR v SUI

Great Britain produced a powerful performance to beat Switzerland 18-6 (4-2, 4-1, 6-1, 4-2) in their final Group Stage game at the European Championships on Thursday night in Madeira

“The game started with the Swiss being strong, but we kept pushing and found the solutions in attack,” GB coach Theo Nousios said after the game. “This group of players have had to find resilience over the years and they know how to perform when they need to.”

Game 4 GBR v ROU

Great Britain secured a second successive win at the European Championships with a powerful 20-2 (3-0, 6-0, 5-1, 6-1) victory against Romania
“[We showed] Lots of intensity and focus on defence and more composure in attack and better shot selection, but still we need to work on our choices in passing in attack, but it was a great performance,” said coach Theo Nousios after the game.
“We are getting better as the tournament goes on, but we are not a professional team, so we need more matches behind us to gain momentum.”
Meanwhile, captain Kathy Rogers added, “Obviously, we’ve reset our goals and we are now focused on securing ninth position in Europe.
“Our program is really new still, and we’re growing as a team and as individual athletes, working on supporting each other and playing to the best of our abilities.
“It’s been a tough start to the tournament, but we have regrouped and I’m super proud of the girls after our last two performances.”

Great Britain have qualified for the 9th/10th classification final of the European Championships after beating the hosts, Portugal, 15-8 (3-0, 3-4, 5-1, 4-3) on Sunday

Game 6 GBR v SRB

Great Britain finished 9th at the European Championships after winning a fierce battle with Serbia 10-9 (1-1, 3-3, 3-2, 3-3) on Monday night
Theo Nousios’ side had to dig deep – and survive a four-minute exclusion – to earn the narrow victory and end their campaign on a high, with Katy Cutler firing in the winner with just 23 seconds remaining.
