The British Water Polo League 2016/2017 season got underway on 17/18 September with an exciting weekend of water polo in Sheffield, and the more to come.  Please see news and results at www.bwpl.org.

English Clubs Competing on the European Stage

 

imageIt is great to see English clubs represented in Europe again.  City of Coventry Water Polo Club competed in the EU Nations Women’s Cup in Prague on 24th/25th September.  They were unbeaten and finished in the silver medal position.   This was the first time that the club has competed in Europe for at least five years. Very well done to the team and coaches.

 

 

file-20-09-2016-09-03-28Congratulations also to the English Roses Masters team, who won bronze at the European Masters Championships in Rijeka, Croatia.  They faced tough competition, as there is only one age group (30+).  Fantastic result – well done!

 

 

 

london-otter-water-polo-european-league-team-2016-finalsmallLondon club, Otter, will compete in the Women’s Euro League, where they will play CN Mataro (Spain), Plebiscito Padova (Italy) and Lille UC (France) in the qualification round in Dunaujvaros, Hungary on 1-4 December.   We wish them Good luck.

 

 

 

New water polo club for North West London

 

file-30-09-2016-12-30-58Great news from North London as a new water polo club is announced under the auspices of the long established Swim 21 accredited Camden Swiss Cottage Swimming Club. The new Camden Water Polo Club will be led by highly experienced water polo Head Coach Dariusz Kadziak.

 

 

Dariusz had a long career as an international water polo player, having represented Poland for six years and appeared at 2 European Championships; as captain at the Varna 1990 European Junior Championships and then at the Senior European Championships in Athens 1991. After his playing career ended, Dariusz then moved into coaching and is now the head coach for London Polytechnic WPC and London Regional Coach.

 

imageThe objective with the new Camden Water Polo Club is to recruit boys and girls born 2003 and younger and then to build a strong competitive junior section, which will in time develop into a senior programme.

 

The Club is now up and running with a training session every Tuesday between 18:00-19:00 at Mallinson Sport Centre, Bishopswood Rd, London, N6 4NY, with extra pool time available for further sessions as numbers increase.

 

If you live in North London and fancy trying water polo, or have played before and are looking for a club local to you which will provide you with the opportunity to become a really good player, we suggest you go along on any Tuesday evening and join in the fun. Looking at club Twitter feeds we note that congratulations are in order to the under 15 squad at Sedgefield Water Polo Club who competed in the under 15 Northern League tournament at Maltby on 10 September and came away with the gold medal.  Very well done to the team and their coaches and Team Manager.

 

sedgeCongratulations also to the under 13 squad at Bridgefield Water Polo club as they won the Liverpool & District Mini Polo Festival for the 3rd year running.

 

 

 

 

Lancaster City Swimming and Water Polo Club is running its 4th Annual Christmas Development Water Polo Competition on 18 and 19 December.  The event is open to players aged 12 years and under.  If you are interested in entering a team you can register online at Ldt16.laswpc.com
