GBR junior polo players secure funding – more needed! -

Great to hear that Great Britain junior women’s players Sophie Jackson, Annie Clapperton, Emmie-Rose Eastwood, Stephanie Whittaker and Katy Cutler have all been awarded personal awards and 3rd party funding to support their water polo development.

Sophie and Annie, pictured in the featured image, and Stephanie, pictured below, are being backed by SportsAid, which aims to help the next generation of athletes by giving them financial support and recognition during the early stages of their careers. For more information about the opportunities for support from SportsAid click here > http://www.sportsaid.org.uk/athletes/sports-we-support/waterpolo/

Emmie-Rose and Stephanie secured funding from the Wigan Council Believe Talent Fund, which is open to local athletes who have reached national standard.

Katy Cutler is delighted to have won funding from the GLL Sports Foundation. The award criteria for GLL funding can be found here > http://www.gllsportfoundation.org/awards-criteria

With funding having been withdrawn from water polo by UKSport some years ago, and SportEngland only providing a relatively small parachute payment just for the next 4 years, unfortunately, it has become essential for individual water polo athletes to be able to locate and secure 3rd party funding in order to realise their potential in the sport.

We would love to hear of more funding, award and sponsorship opportunities out there for talented water polo players and will be delighted to publicise these. So, if you have received funding for water polo and would like to provide recognition to your sponsor/funder, or if you are a potential sponsor seeking applications from outstanding young talent please contact us with details and we will be very happy to promote the opportunity.

Meantime, here’s some media coverage of Katy which appeared recently on http://www.thats.tv/salisbury Well done Katy!

Manchester Met University have financially supported each of our present student athletes going to the World University Games to the tune of £1000 each. This is in addition to the Sport Scholarships that they have at this developing waterpolo hub.
