Many happy returns to Cheltenham and England stalwart Phil Jones! -

On behalf of all at Cheltenham Swimming & Water Polo Club and the wider England water polo community, we would like to wish Phil Jones a very special happy 90th birthday. Phil has been a member of Cheltenham S&WPC member since late 1930s, became a senior England Water Polo international at the age of just 16, and was a mighty goal-scorer left or right-handed.

Phil was then instrumental in the establishment of the National Water Polo League serving as General Secretary From 1962-1975, and then Chair from 1976-82.

In 1996 Phil was honoured to be President of the ASA as well as discharging numerous other roles at County and Regional level, and is still a member of the CS&WPC committee.

Another successful season for Phil

We understand that Phil will be attending the British Water Polo League weekend in Gloucester in November when Cheltenham Spartans (Cheltenham’s 2nd team) will take on Southampton, the British Army and Croydon so if you are attending make sure you wish him a belated Happy Birthday!

Wishing you a very happy 90th birthday Phil. You were chair of the water polo committee during my stint. Fond and happy memories of those days.
