Welcome to our leap year England Water Polo club news! -

What an exciting month February has been as we have been revelling in the success of the British Senior Women at the 2024 Water Polo World Championships in Doha!

Coached by Nick Buller with Peggy Etiebet AC and Rose Younger TM in support, the team achieved their initial goal of finishing in the top 3 of their group at the Worlds, and then went on to defeat South Africa and Kazakhstan to finish with their highest ever finish in 11th place.  What an amazing sequence of stellar performances, from European qualification to a best ever World ranking via 7th in Europe, we are all very proud of you ladies!

Back at home the British Water Polo league Championships have been hotting up as teams fight for their final places.

In Women’s Super 5s City of Manchester and Liverpool Lizards each have 4 points but City of Manchester is in the lead with an impressive goal difference of 23.

In the Men’s Super 5s City of Manchester and Polytechnic have 5 points each but City of Manchester holds on to top spot with a goal difference of 15.

The Women’s Championship 1 competition still has another weekend to go but Hucknall, Cheltenham and Tyldesley have already finished in the top 3 and thus secure promotion to BWPL Division 1.  Congratulations to all 3 teams.

In Men’s Championship 1 Penguin and Watford remain neck and neck winning all their matches so far.

In the Men’s Championship 2 competition, Sedgefield is in top position on 10 points with Worthing in second place on 8 points.

February saw the preliminary round of the National Age Group (NAGS) competitions for the under 19 male and female age groups (NAGs).  13 teams competed split into 3 groups.  City of Manchester U19 Girls put in a very strong performance winning all four of their preliminary games and topping their group and qualifying for the finals.

The London League was won by Enfield Senior Men who were semi-finalists last year.  They  defeated Guildford to win the London League Cup. Great result guys.

Congratulations also to Enfield Ladies who were London Winter League runners up in their first season of competing.

In the Under 18 competition, West London Penguins’ girls team won all 3 games of their games in the U18 London league.

Congratulations also to Hillingdon Penguins under 14s for a fantastic team effort finishing top of Division 2 in the U14 London Winter League.
