England U17 (2003) junior men’s Results EU Nations, Brno April 17th – 21st 2019
Game 1 ENG v AUT
Strong start for England’s 2003/04 Junior Men as they began their EU Nations campaign with a deserved 14-9 (5-2, 4-2, 2-4, 3-1) victory over Austria 2002s.
After storming into a 9-4 lead at the turnaround, England were able to close out the game to ensure the win.
Game 2 ENG v DEN
England’s 2003/04 Junior Men battled hard against Denmark’s 2002s in their second match of the day at the EU Nations, but were beaten 16-9 (5-1, 5-1, 2-4, 4-3).
Despite a slow start, England recovered well and began to upset the Danes in the third and fourth quarters as they made sure they went down fighting.
A fantastic effort by Andy McGinty’s young side against more experienced opponents.
Game 3 ENG v LTU
England’s Junior Men finished strongly against Lithuania this morning at the EU Nations but still suffered a 17-7 (6-2, 4-0, 4-2, 3-3) defeat.
Game 4 ENG v CYP
England’s Junior Men have edged a thrilling clash with Cyprus 8-7 (4-3, 2-3, 1-0, 1-1) to earn their second group stage victory at the EU Nations Cup.
After back-to-back losses to Denmark and Lithuania, England responded brilliantly to beat Cyprus in what was a physically demanding encounter.
Game 5 ENG v CZE U15
England’s Junior Men stormed to their third victory at the EU Nations Cup with a 9-7 (3-2, 1-2, 1-3, 4-0) win against the Czech Republic U15s.
A strong final quarter proved the difference as Andy McGinty’s side fought back superbly from 7-5 down to secure the much-needed points.
Game 6 ENG v MLD
England’s Junior Men have finished 4th in Group B at the EU Nations Cup after a tough 16-6 (5-2, 5-1, 2-2, 4-1) loss to strong group winners Moldova.
Andy McGinty’s squad will now face Sweden on Easter Sunday in the 7th/8th classification final, 10.30am start local time 💪🤽🏼♂️🏴
“Despite the loss, the match against Moldova showed the most improvement,” commented head coach McGinty. “In the first half, whilst we mostly stuck to our plan of controlling the play, we still took some low percentage shots at the wrong times and were punished for it.
“In the second half the team recognised this and waited for better opportunities in attack whilst controlling our counter defence and this led to a far closer second half.
“There is plenty of work still to do, but I felt the team worked for each other in this game which is pleasing considering the team are only on their 4th day of playing together.“
Game 7 ENG v SWE
England’s Junior Men have finished 7th at the EU Nations Cup after a dramatic and thrilling 10-8 (2-3, 0-1, 0-0, 3-1, 5-3P) penalty shootout victory over Sweden
The result was more than deserved for Andy McGinty’s young squad, who battled back from 4-2 down to win the final quarter 3-1 and level the match.
Playing mainly against older opposition, the team have performed superbly and improved throughout the tournament. Congratulations to each and every one of them

This has been another exciting month with City of Manchester pulling off an amazing double victory in the Super 5s as their men’s and women’s teams won their respective super 5 crowns. The men’s event came down to a thrilling finale with City of Manchester playing Polytechnic for a winner takes all showdown. City of Manchester secured a 15-12 victory over last year’s champions to take the crown while Sutton & Cheam secured their place in the Champions Cup with a 5-9 victory over Cheltenham and Welsh Wanderers took the third spot.
